Needle pain and Vaccination: it’s not just a poke or a joke

Pain and/or fear of needles are well-documented concerns for individuals undergoing vaccination and contribute to vaccination non-compliance. Minimizing pain has the potential to lead to more positive experiences during vaccination and improve vaccination compliance rates. This presentation will review new evidence-based approaches to reduce pain and fear during vaccine injections in children and adults. Interventions for pain and fear management span 4 different domains: procedural interventions, physical interventions, pharmacological interventions and psychological interventions (also known as the 4 P’s of pain management).
